Today is the global day of prayer for Peace in Syria, the Middle East and the World. And this prayer for peace makes loads of sense.
Prayer for Peace by Saint Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
I cannot but also add that my country, Nigeria, stands at a cross-road. The 2015 General Elections has already started, with trenches dug deep and the cacophony of hate and distrust is wielded as a political tool.
To contest or not to contest; the divine right to rule that is the question. And in all this, the actors are not in any way deterred in employing the old tactics of ethnocentrism and religion clad in impious drab of ‘national’ [personal avarice for power] interests.
And that’s why Onyeka Onwenu’s Song of Peace is apt and appropriate. Let’s also pray for Nigeria.
